Okay, okay: I know that there are about 10,000 recipes for spinach dip, most involving artichokes, and most, I’m sure, infinitely healthier than this one. A cup of mayo? Wow. But you know what? This is my Mom’s recipe. She grew up in Mississippi. It’s fattening. It’s old-school. And it is still my favorite.
Old School Spinach Dip
1 cup sour cream
1 cup mayonnaise
1 can water chestnuts, drained and chopped
1 envelope dry onion soup mix
2 bunches green onion, finely chopped
20 oz. frozen spinach, thawed
Dash Worcestershire sauce
Drain spinach thoroughly by pressing against paper towels. Chop finely. Mix spinach with all other ingredients. Refrigerate, covered, until ready to serve. Good with Hawaiian bread.
